3/06/01 - Every now and again in life, you find a point of light. It doesn't matter the size. Your point may be a friend, a lover, a spouse. Regardless, you find that light. It draws your attention, draws you in. You focus on it, and bask in it's warmth. The sight it brings carries joy, and the heat if supplies brings comfort.
You take everything to that light, and build your world around it. Your possesions you share, and eventually you hold nothing back. You offer yourself, and try to share your happiness. You take apart and reconstruct your dreams to reflect the light you have found; to magnify it. The light grows, and you grow with it. You adapt to take in what it has to offer. You restructure to accompany it properly.
Eventually, something happens. One way or another, it always does. For one, your light could easily turn on you. Fire does not know who is attending to it, it can burn you just as easily as someone who has no regard for it. Either through slow increase or sudden flash, you get burned. Everything you held closest to your flame, including yourself, gets devastated. Nearly destroyed. As human nature would have it, you heal and move on. The next light you find is given a bit more of a guarded approach, but the cycle begins again. Maybe slower, but again none the less.
Sometimes the light simply fades. The time comes for it to go, and it leaves. Whether through neglect, a matter of unavoidable circumstance, of through mortality. The switch is thrown, and everything you've built is cast into darkness. It must be deconstructed and taken away, but there is no light to guide you. You don't know how to recollect those bits of yourself or where to go with them once you find them all, but you manage. Slowly, once more, you go on to begin another cycle.
I thank whoever is watching over me for my flame. I give thanks for the warmth to open up to, and the ability to see that much clearer due to it. So now it is my turn to start rebuilding. Slowly, I know, with a bit of caution, but rebuilding despite the past. I hope this light stays lit for a good long time.
