3/2/01 - I seem to do nothing at work. Ok, that's a complete lie, but I always seem to have time to myself at one point to go off into my own little world. What's even better than that, I have the opportunity to write it down. Here's some more neurons firing in my skull for you:
I realize lately that most people don't realize major moments when they get to be a part of them. I'll break that down a bit: movie moments. That's the best comparison I can think of. I know there's been one point in your life when you've been watching a movie and the only thought that crosses your mind while watching one scene is, "How cool would that be?" You only really come across those moments on very rare occasions. I got to thinking about it, and I've had a couple.
Recently I had the chance to ask three of my friends to go to Europe. Read that again: I got to ask three of my friends to go to Europe. Why? Just to go on vacation. I mean think about it, how often in my life am I going to be able to do that? How often in your life are you going to be heading off to some European country and have the chance to turn to some of your closest friends and say something along the lines of: "Hey, what are you doing in March? Feel like taking a trip to Germany?" That's insanity. It didn't hit me until afterwards that something so simple as inviting someone with you to go on vacation is really one of those moments. I hope to whoever's planning this thing called life that I'm able to do that again in my life. I think I might try to come up with a better way to ask. Something worthy of a script, that will be remembered by whomever I ask.
There have been other moments, too. Some are unpleasant...it happens. I prefer not to think of those, so I won't. Others are screen quality. That first kiss with someone who you've craved forever. I ended up having to turn down the rest, but that's not the point. Knowing that by skill and some luck, you've avoided what could have been a life-ending car crash. Had that one a couple of times. Getting into a long involved arguement with someone, then by use of your wits not only be able to get them to see your point, but change their mind. That's a great one. These moments come and go and most people fail to see them, even when they're involved. I'm sure you've had a couple, you just don't realize how important they were or how prominent they will be in your memory.
Every day you start off with the intent to say....I dunno....survive another day at work. Or get groceries. Or wash the car. You get up and go on with your day running into people you know, or telling someone something to make them smile a bit. Never do you think that the joke you told could be the start of the best day of someone else's life, and you will always be remembered by them. So think about what you do, you might be stuck in someone's memory forever, and being remembered as an asshole isn't good unless that's the intent.
